Formula E Organizers Urged to Evaluate Safety after Tribune’s Rooftop Collapsed
Jakarta – The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) faction of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) urged Formula E organizing committee to make improvements following the collapse of the rooftop of the spectator’s grandstands a few days ago.
“We are very grateful that there were no victims in this incident. But the committee must immediately fix it. The time is very tight. We hope the committee can ensure that on the racing days, there will be no similar incident,” said Head of the Jakarta PSI faction Anggara Wicitra Sastroamidjojo in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday, May 29, 2021.
Anggara hoped that the international electric car racing event slated on June 4, 2022, in Jakarta International ePrix Circuit, Ancol, will run smoothly. “We certainly hope that the event will run smoothly. Apart from safety issues, the prestige in the international eyes must be maintained,” he added.
Chairman of the Jakarta Formula E Organizing Committee Ahmad Sahroni confirmed that one part of the grandstand’s rooftop collapsed. “[It was due to] the storm last night,” he said via a text message on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Several reports suggested said the incident occurred during heavy rains in the capital on Friday night, May 27, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Business Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) Gunung Kartiko said the roof collapsed as its installation was still incomplete.
